visual: self-recorded video, lumen, resolume arena

(re)composition is a follow-up piece to (de)composition and continues the narrative of new life made possible through decay. this installment draws from my own personal reflections on rebuilding after a metaphorical “death” and rock bottom moment.

using personal video, fungal sounds, and sonified journal entries, the project traces an abstract path through my journey with healing from mental illness and coming to terms with my gender identity.

journal entries were converted into .txt files, which were then fed into a self-made python program that utilized the ascii values of the characters to output a midi file. from there, the midi files were fine tuned in garageband and arranged and mixed with fungal recordings in adobe audition.

the base video was recorded during a nighttime walk taken along a trail as a sort of meditation and mental escape. it was processed using lumen and resolume arena. the audio file was then brought in to control the visual effects and filters by making them react to changes in frequencies.
