from the bacteria making you sick to the cordyceps zombify-ing ants, microbial life tends to be associated with death and decay. but, they are also symbols of life, surviving in the harshest environments and returning vital nutrients to the environment through decomposition.

this project is a reminder that though we may go out of our way to avoid them, interaction between fungi and other microbes are an inescapable part of being human, both in life and after death. it imagines a single human organism being overtaken by a network of fungi, portraying the natural process of fungi decomposing organic matter to return the energy to the environment to go towards new life.

the audio is derived from mushroom and human biosonification, obtained by capturing electrical feedback and manipulating the signals with modular synths. fungal sounds intermingle with and eventually overtake human-derived ones, similar to real-life interactions.
